I had the privilege of playing with Amy on Easter this year at the National Cathedral here in Washington, DC. She's got one of the best trumpet sounds you will ever hear in your life. Everything looks so "natural" when she plays. (Translation: She's done a ton of work!)

Her story is a fascinating one. She went to undergrad to become an elementary school librarian and then ended up one of the world's best trumpet players well before the age of 30. It's a story worth hearing so we're glad she was willing to be a guest on the podcast!

Lance and I had a blast interviewing our good friend Rex Richardson for the latest episode of The Brass Junkies podcast.  Rex is one of the best trumpet players in the world and has one of the most interesting careers in the music business today.  He has played in more countries than any other musician I know.

We asked him about how he became so proficient at both jazz and classical music, about his travels are the world, and made a lot of fun of him for being a trumpet player.  You should be warned that we laugh an awful lot.

Thank you, Rex, for joining us!

Lance and I had the opportunity to sit down with the producers of both The Brass Junkies and The Entrepreneurial Musician, Austin Boyer and Buddy Deshler of the Fredericksburg Brass Institute.  Austin and Buddy are two of the most driven people in their early 20's that I've ever met.

In this episode they discuss how they came to successfully launch a brass festival featuring world class soloists while they were still in their early 20's.  They also talk about their roles within the Pedal Note Media Podcast Network and what it's like to constantly be made fun of by Lance and myself.

They are a great example for anyone looking to get their start in the music business so you should check out their episode!

Victor Barranco Joins The Brass Junkies

Andrew Hitz

The latest episode of The Brass Junkies podcast features a hilarious interview with trombonist Victor Barranco of the US Army Blues.  He talks about the fascinating path he took from growing up in North Pole, Alaska to ending up in Washington, DC playing in one of the premier bands in the world.

He also speaks about how he became handy around the house (as in having his house featured on home improvement websites.)  Why is this important? It turns out he used the exact same growth mentality to teach himself how to play jazz and then just a few years later he was the lead trombone in the One O'Clock Band at UNT.  He speaks about how it is all about how you approach things.

Lance and I couldn't believe how much we laughed during this episode and how inspiring it was.  He will make you go practice and have you in stitches talking about being the only Puerto Rican family growing up in North Pole.

The Brass Junkies: Kevin Gebo - Episode 4

Andrew Hitz

My dear friend Kevin Gebo joined us for the latest episode of The Brass Junkies to discuss the many different aspects of his career.

Kevin is a trumpet player with the US Army Ceremonial Band in Arlington, VA.  He is also a soloist, chamber musician, and entrepreneur.  In this episode, he discusses his latest solo album, being a part of the first volume of the Brass Recording Project, and his collaborations with Paul Reiser (yes, THAT Paul Reiser.)

The Brass Junkies: Ryan Anthony - Episode 1

For the first ever episode of The Brass Junkies, Andrew Hitz and Lance LaDuke welcome one of the greatest brass players in the world, Ryan Anthony.  Ryan is the former star of Canadian Brass and is currently the Principal Trumpet of the Dallas Symphony.  On top of that he is a cancer survivor, the head of The Ryan Anthony Foundation, and one of the nicest human beings you could ever hope to meet.

Ryan discusses with us his entire career from soloing with major symphonies at the age of 16 to the Cancer Blows event he is throwing later this month with the likes of Doc Severinsen, Arturo Sandoval and Phil Smith to raise money for cancer research.  He also opens up about the phone call almost two years ago that changed his life forever.

When you hear the positive attitude Ryan brings to the trumpet and to life, you'll know why we couldn't think of a better person to kick off this podcast!

Note: We are aware there are some feedback issues in spots.  We are new to this whole thing and in the spirit of the Minimum Viable Product that we are always preaching to our business students, we are launching and learning on the fly. Thanks for your patience!
